One of the most widely recognizable symbols of China is the Panda. It is regarded as a living fossil because of its ancient ancestry. Archaeological evidence suggests pandas have been living in the bamboo forests of China's southern tropical regions for millions of years.
Giant pandas are inextricably linked to bamboo- their primary food source. Although bamboo has been the source of artistic subject for thousands of years in China, the panda has rarely appeared in landscapes of their natural habitat.
